We’re nearing the end of 2023, and you know what that means: it’s time to get booking next year’s getaways. And if you’re wondering exactly where you might want to head in 2024, we’ve got just the thing. Travel guidebook company Lonely Planet has just released its annual list of 50 incredible must-visit destinations for next year – and, excitingly, one of them is quite close to home.
LP’s list features 50 destinations to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary, and they range from emerging hotspots and criminally overlooked gems to places where you’ll get the best value for money.
Also featuring in the list, however, was the entirety of Scotland’s Far North, which was named one of the best regions to visit in the world in 2024. Lonely Planet highlighted the likes of the ornate Dunrobin Castle, the picturesque Kylesku Bridge (that crosses the scenic Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin in Sutherland) and the sweeping 400,000-hectare Flow Country, which is the largest bog habitat in Europe.
So, now you have even more reasons to venture north of the border! From the shores of Loch Lomond and historic cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow to the natural wonders of the Scottish Highlands, Scotland’s many, many wonders are finally getting the recognition they’ve always deserved.
You can check out the full list of 50 destinations on Lonely Planet’s website here.
