Passing through a good airport is like a holiday in and of itself. When you’ve got a sushi bar, a cocktail lounge, a spa and an art gallery, who gives a hoot if your flight is delayed by yet another hour?
Soon, travellers passing through Manchester Airport will be able to bask in pre-flight luxury as plans have been unveiled to open 27 new restaurants and shops in its shiny new Terminal Two.
The UK’s third largest airport will eventually feature a market-style food hall alongside a boutique shopping area with a champagne bar, artisan cafés and a brasserie. As well as the national chains you might expect, airport bosses want to bring some northern soul to the terminal, so there will also be a bunch of local brands, including Manchester brewers Joseph Holt and Seven Bro7hers.
The plans are part of the final phase of the airport’s huge £1.3 billion revamp, announced way back in 2015. This phase will also involve a new security hall with 3D scanners, a second pier with additional boarding gates and a new dual taxiway system designed to improve airfield efficiency.
Early stages of the makeover saw Terminal Two more than double in size before it reopened in July 2021. Once this stage is complete, it is expected that around 80 percent of passengers will use Terminal Two while Terminal One gradually closes. Work is currently scheduled to be completed by 2025.
Manchester Airport apparently had some of the worst flight delay times in the country in 2022. So, here’s hoping that this glow-up might help turn things around.
