Planning an Italian escape in 2024? A new airline is swooping in to give you even more ways of getting to Il Bel Paes. Aeroitalia is (you guessed it) an Italian airline that took flight in 2022 and mostly operates domestic services. Excitingly, however, this year it’s set to launch its first flights between the UK and Milan.
The airline will be running services between London Southend Airport (in Essex) and Milan Bergamo six times a week from March 25 2024. Tickets will start from €79.99 (£69) one-way.
Despite being less well-known than the likes of London’s Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted airports, Southend is relatively easy to get to for Londoners, taking just 52 minutes on a direct train from Liverpool Street.
John Upton, the big boss at Southend Airport, said: ‘This partnership marks a significant milestone for London Southend Airport, providing our passengers in the east of London and southeast England with a convenient gateway to the heart of Italian football, fashion and culture in Milan.’
Gaetano Intrieri, CEO at Aeroitalia, added: ‘We are confident that this new route will become a bridge between cultures, connecting our beautiful Italian cities with the vibrant energy of London.’

Airports are constantly chopping and changing the journeys they have on offer — it can be hard to keep up! Both Bristol Airport and Liverpool John Lennon Airport have recently scrapped flights with German airline Lufthansa. But in better news, Liverpool John Lennon is operating flights to an ‘underrated’ part of Europe, Ryanair will start operating flights from Norwich and the budget airline also launched more flights to and from Cornwall.
