In the market for a bit of last-minute vacay inspiration? We might have just the thing. Holiday rental company Vrbo has just revealed its top European holiday homes of the year – and one of the winners is a glorious historic mill house near Edinburgh.
Named, fittingly, the Old Mill House, the rental was ranked up amongst the likes of a villa in Sardinia and a property built on rocks above a beach in Corfu. Fancy stuff, eh?
Now, everyone knows that Edinburgh isn’t necessarily the warmest place in the world. But the Old Mill House makes up for its lack of scorching 40C Mediterranean sun with swathes of luxury. You best believe there’s a heated outdoor swimming pool that can be used year-round. Oh, and there’s a hot tub. Obvs.
The Old Mill House was restored back in 2012. With five bedrooms, each with their own en-suite, it sleeps ten and is in the old market town of Dalkeith, just 20 minutes from Edinburgh city centre. The owners also offer a fancy concierge service that can get you a private chef, set up fishing lessons, book you a restaurant or pair you up with a driver.
Sounds dreamy, right? On average, a stay here costs £1,053 per night and you can check out more info on the official Vrbo listing here. But before you try and rent it, know that there is a bit of a catch: you have to be at least 40 years old to do so. No millennial girls’ trips or posh Gen Z piss-ups for us... bummer.
