It’s difficult being the younger child. Watching your older siblings do cool things, meet loads of people, and get all the credit for being Manchester’s best train stations when you’re trying as hard as you can to serve the good people of the city’s south, all for nowt in return. Oxford Road Station doesn’t get enough love. Well, we should say, it didn’t: until now.

The station’s revamp, which was scheduled for March 2024, will see it get the TLC it deserves. The upgrades will be done overnight, so you won’t even notice until you stroll up for your morning commute one day and BOOM! Brand new ticket barriers, including an additional accessible one.

The ticket office is also moving from its current home to the much brighter, more convenient front of the station, a move which Network Rail believe will streamline passenger flow and create a more user-friendly environment for everyone.’

The development will cost £2.7 million, which sounds like a lot to move a couple of barriers and a window, but at least now you know why your train ticket costs an arm and a leg. Enjoy your upgrades, commuters of Manchester!
