For many people, airports are pretty stressful places. A necessary evil through which you’ve got to pass through to get on holiday, they’re usually packed with people and feature tonnes of lengthy, annoying queues and frustrating delays.
Passengers at one UK airport, however, will hopefully soon be getting a much smoother, less stressful air travel experience. Bristol Airport, England’s third-largest regional airport, is getting some seriously swish upgrades.
Upgrade plans for Bristol’s airport include the construction of a public transport interchange hub outside the terminal, which is set to cater to coaches and buses. There’ll also be a hugely expanded multi-storey car park, as well as a swanky pedestrian bridge linking the parking area with the terminal.
Bristol Airport will be increasing its number of bus and coach bays from six to 16 and adding more than 2,000 car parking spaces. The transformation aims to ease airport access for those getting there by public transport, apparently aiming to accommodate a whopping 12 million passengers a year.
While the influx of passengers may be concerning for some – after all, Bristol had some of the worst flight delays in 2022 – airport bosses are determined that the airport’s £60m transformation plans will create thousands of jobs, support inbound tourism and produce a much more pleasant passenger experience.
The full transformation is set to take a total of 18 months to complete, though the project doesn’t yet have a confirmed completion date.
