Ever thought about living out your own fairytale fantasy? The stunning castle of Brough Lodge on the island of Fetlar in Shetland has hit the market for much less than the average price of a UK flat – complete with folly towers, a courtyard, walled gardens and 40 acres of land overlooking the sea.

Sounds pretty magical, right? Unfortunately, there’s a catch. Although the 200-year-old property will only cost potential buyers around £30,000 to snap up, they will also need a spare £12 million lying around to cover the cost of renovations.

The Brough Lodge Trust was founded in 1998 to preserve the building, and is currently appealing for a ‘philanthropic entrepreneur’ to take on the site and transform it into a retreat for guests to enjoy yoga and textile classes, as well as create 24 bedrooms and a restaurant. Any philanthropic entrepreneurs out there who want to take one for the team?

Perched on the north-west side of the island, the castle is a category A listed building of national significance and has been empty since the 1980s. You can find out more about the plans and sale on the trust’s website

ICYMI: This historic Welsh market is getting a multi-million-pound glow-up.

Plus: Cambridge Uni now has its own huge wildflower meadow.
