If you get your kicks out of being scared shitless, here’s something that’ll be right up your alley.
Flat Holm is a tiny island in the Bristol Channel with a population of just one and a very, very eerie history. Perhaps the creepiest bit of the island is the crumbling ruin of a hospital once used to isolate sailors with cholera before they were allowed into Cardiff. The last patient to die there was a victim of the Black Death. There are also buried remains of 50 seamen who drowned after a ship sank nearby in 1817.
In other words, the island is rich with haunting material. And if it all sounds like your ideal getaway destination, you’re in luck. Now all of that spooky stuff is being put to good use with the launch of a one-off immersive horror game.
The overnight experience, named ‘The Static Sea’ and created by production company Stormjar Studio, will be based on real historical elements and the architecture of the island. It will follow the fictional story of a WW1 radio engineer who has lived on the haunted island alone since the end of the war. There will be lots of realistic performers, props and sets to interact with.
Stormjar is crowdfunding for the experience and donors will have their name entered into a ballot which will give them the chance to be selected as one of six participants. All revenue exceeding £5,500 will go towards the environment and heritage project on the island.
The ballot closes on December 14, with the experience happening in March. If you don’t manage to get there in person, you can also experience the story online.
