After the past few weeks, you’d be silly to argue that the UK doesn’t sometimes have decent weather. But of course, the sun favours some areas more than others and there’s nothing worse than going on a staycation only to be met with grey skies and drizzle.
You may be able to avoid such disappointment thanks to new research by Cofton Holidays. The company used Met Office data from the past ten years to find out the UK’s ‘most consistently hot and sunny holiday destinations’.
Looking at measures including average rainfall, temperatures, frosty days and sunshine hours, the study discovered that Torbay in Devon has the most reliably good weather. The destination came second for both sunshine hours and warm temperatures, making it first overall for peak holiday weather.
The area encompasses the seaside towns of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and is often referred to as the English Riviera. Commenting on a video showcasing what Torbay has to offer, one social media user dubbed it ‘Britain’s Turkey’. Who needs the Mediterranean?
Brighton came first for sunshine hours and seventh for warm weather, while London was deemed the best staycation for the latter but didn’t make the top ten for its sunshine hours.
According to Cofton Holidays, these are the UK holiday spots where you are most likely to find consistently good weather:
- Torbay
- Devon
- London
- Brighton
- Bristol
- Bath
- Cornwall
- Liverpool
- Blackpool
- Birmingham
