This year, the UK's summer has simply not been summering. For weeks now, Brits have had to put up with grey clouds, chilly temperatures, constant drizzle and even fully-fledged storms. Thankfully, we haven’t had to deal with the scarily extreme temperatures being faced by mainland Europe but, equally, is a bit of August sunshine too much to ask for?
Finally our prayers may be answered. Met Office forecasters have said that the clouds will clear up and temperatures will rise to up to 33C in the second half of August, with higher temperatures properly kicking off next week.
Apparently a plume of hot air will travel from North Africa over Spain and France and to the UK, with heat expected to be turned up from Wednesday, August 16. Temperatures will start at 26C and could go up to 28C over the weekend, potentially peaking at 33C on Sunday, August 20.
London, the south east and the east coast are predicted to get particularly hot, with the possibility of weather warnings being issued. Temperatures may start to fall again slightly from August 22.
Nevertheless, time to get your sunnies out and slather on some factor 50! You can keep up to date with the latest weather news on the Met Office website here.
