It’s winter, and things are looking pretty bleak in the UK. The days are short, the nights are long, you know the drill. It sucks. So we can’t be the only ones looking for a little pick-me-up during these cold winter days, right?
And what could be better for soothing those winter blues than a staycation? A rather extraordinary glamping site in Snowdonia has just been crowned the one of the best holiday lets in the UK and Ireland for 2022. You’re going to want to see it.
‘The Hobbit House’ in Nant y Garnedd, North Wales, is inspired by the fictional characters’ dwellings in JRR Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy. Tucked away in a forest, it offers total seclusion in Snowdonia’s mountains and has some pretty unbelievable views.
Complete with a typical Hobbit front door, this particular home is self-catered, with a full kitchenette, living area and cosy bedroom. There’s even a outdoor hot tub.
It’s a single-story hut with circular windows, and is in a seriously good spot for if you ever want to escape the hustle and bustle of the daily grind. Nearby, you’ll find good places for playing golf, cycling and fishing, and Dolforwyn Castle and Lake Vyrnwy are just a short car ride away.
The property was named the best glamping holiday let in the UK and Ireland as part of the Best Holiday Lets Competition, in which property owners were asked to nominate their homes for five categories, including ‘most quirky’ and ‘best view’.

ICYMI: this small UK city has been named one of the world’s top travel destinations.
Plus: Europe’s most beautiful castle is apparently right here in the UK.
