The east side of East Cliff Beach in Bournemouth, next to the pier, will be fenced off for two weeks to make way for big refurbishment.

The work is part of a £33 million scheme funded by the Environment Agency that will help to protect the coastline against rising sea levels over the next century.

Workers will take to the beach for the next three days (December 12-14) and the area will remain closed for an extra week to allow for the sand to settle and compact.

Parts of the beach will stay fenced off over the festive period but a spokesperson for Bournemouth Christchurch and Poole council said: ‘During this break, fenced areas will be made smaller to enable visitors maximum access to the beach, but please continue to stay out of restricted zones and follow our safety signage.’

The upgrades along the beach are expected to be completed by the end of March 2024.
