Feel like you were born in the wrong era? Always wanted to live a day in the life of an Austen character? Well, listen up.
Blyth Hall, a Grade I-listed country manor in North Warwickshire, was bought almost four centuries ago by Sir William Dugdale, who was a member of King Charles I's court and – apparently – ‘one of the first and most important modern historians’. To make sure it can stay around for another few centuries, the gorg Grade I-listed building is now opening its doors for weddings, country escapes, corporate retreats, house parties and historical tours.
Just half an hour from Birmingham and Coventry, Blyth Hall can fit up to 30 guests overnight across 13 bedrooms (10 with ensuites), including a very swanky three-room bridal suite.
If you land a stay at Blyth Hall, you’ll get to enjoy three reception rooms, a ‘well-equipped’ kitchen, working fireplaces, an orchard, a walled garden and a terrace with views over the grounds and the River Blythe. Into fishing? The hall even offers extra rods and tackle for you to head out onto the river bank.
The manor’s current owner, also named William Dugdale, is the 12th generation of the Dugdale family to live at Blyth Hall. He inherited it from his grandfather, who happened to be ex-PM David Cameron’s uncle and a former Aston Villa chairman.
Dugdale told BBC News: ‘I really love seeing the place full of people enjoying themselves. Some say it feels like living in a Jane Austen novel – though with nice bathrooms and plumbing that works.’
You can book a weekend at Blyth Hall from £5,500 or a whole week from £15,000. Here are a few more pics of the place.
