What could be more lovey-dovey than candles, velvet and complimentary champagne?

Edinburgh is one of the UK’s best places for a loved up break. Don’t believe us? Just watch new Netflix romance ‘One Day’. Those charming cobbled streets, picturesque views from Arthur’s Seat and the magical history around every turn is enough to make anyone fall head over heels.

So, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise that the Scottish capital is home to the UK’s most romantic hotel. That’s according to travel website Big 7 Travel, anyway, which ranked The Witchery at number 19 in its list of the 50 most romantic hotels in the world for 2024.

By the gates of Edinburgh Castle, the luxury gothic hotel is adorned with oak panelling, velvet furnishing and soft candlelight. Dating all the way back to 1595, it offers nine elegant bedrooms, each complete with generous four-poster beds and a bottle of champagne on arrival.

Once you’ve shared a bottle from its list of award-winning wines, you and your SO can indulge in an intimate moment on the hotel’s enchanting secluded terrace. Big 7 called The Witchery ‘the perfect bolthole for the most romantic minds’ with ‘passion woven into every corner’.

Rooms at The Witchery start from £475 per night. You can treat your partner to a stay here. And it wasn’t the only romantic rendezvous in Britain to make the cut in Big 7’s list. The Newt in Somerset swooped in at number 26 and Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa in Wiltshire came in 31st place.
