So, you’ve decided that 2025 is the year to embrace your granola girl, gorpcore era? Was your New Year’s resolution to get out of the city and be at one with nature? Good on you. Now you’re committed, we’re here to let you know that you can trek one of the world’s very best trails right here in the UK.
That’s according to hiking app AllTrails, at least. Earlier this year AllTrails unveiled its pick of the world’s 25 best walking trails to try out in 2025. And ranked among waterfall hikes in Japan and breathtaking ventures in the Alps, is northern England’s very own Coast to Coast Walk. Specifically, the 23km segment from St Bees to Ennerdale.
The Coast to Coast walk, which runs from Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bat in north Yorkshire, is often considered the ‘holy grail’ of British trails, the pièce de résistance of UK footpaths and has existed since 1975. But this year marks the first that it is actually an official national trail. It sits at number 13 on the ranking, sandwiched between the Hoh Rainforest in Washington and the pink hills of Badlands National Park in South Dakota.
AllTrails said: ‘Our favourite segment happens to be right at the start, where you’ll wind through Lake District National Park with sweeping views of the coast before making your way through quaint villages.
‘At just over 14 miles, this segment can be done in a day leaving you plenty of time to enjoy some fish and chips after as a delicious reward.’

ICYMI: Thousands of trees have been planted to create a rainforest in Devon.
Plus: 75 miles of coastal paths in Cornwall have had a glow-up.
