Calling all train enthusiasts: Leicester railway station is set to get a massive multi-million-pound glow-up. It’s part of an ambitious plan to improve facilities and restore the historic building, and has been backed by the UK government’s levelling-up fund.

As you’d expect, it’s going to be a huge undertaking. They’ll transform the inside and outside of the station, demolish the buildings next door to make way for a pedestrianised area and drop-off point, install a cycle store, build a ramp and steps leading to the main entrance, and even turn the taxi rank into a new plaza for cafés, bars and shops. The ticket hall will also be opened up to provide more space and natural light.

And it’s going to look just as exciting as it sounds. New images of what the railway station could look like after the revamp have just been released by Leicester City Council. Check them out below.

Of the plans, Will Rogers, managing director for East Midlands Railway, said: ‘The investment will see the iconic Leicester railway station restored back to its Victorian glory. The development will transform Leicester railway station, by encouraging integration with the surrounding community and offering an improved customer experience to all station visitors.’

A page about the proposals has been set up on Leicester City Council’s website, where the public are encouraged to leave feedback.
