Fancy a taste of luxury? Want to feel like a king or queen? Looking for the next place to hold the dreaded annual gathering of your extended family? Say no more. There’s a castle up in Norfolk that has all of those things covered.
The Grade I-listed Middleton Castle was built during the reign of Henry VI in 1455, just six years before he was ousted in the War of the Roses. It has been used as a family home for the last five-and-a-bit centuries but recently changed management and has now been repurposed as a luxurious retreat.
Surrounded by a moat, the castle can sleep a whopping 30 guests across 15 bedrooms, five of which have their own elegant en-suite bathrooms.
You’ve got a family kitchen with an Aga as well as a separate prep kitchen and an oak panelled dining room. Then there’s four (yes four) reception rooms, with one offering table tennis, snooker and a collection of board games. Avoiding your problematic great-uncle couldn’t be easier!
On the grounds of the property there’s a summer house, croquet lawn and outdoor seating area. Just beyond the grounds there’s loads of fairytale woodland and rolling farmland to be explored, as well as the historic market town of King’s Lynn just a ten-minute drive away. Here are a few pics of the place.
As you might have guessed, all of this doesn’t come cheap. Depending on the time of year, booking six nights at Middleton Castle on ALTIDO could cost you an eye-watering £27,612. Which is equivalent to £726 per person, if you succeed in gathering 30 people. On Airbnb, meanwhile, it costs about £4,914 per night.
