All over the country, football stadiums are getting massive makeovers. From a potential £2 billion renovation of Old Trafford to Etihad Stadium’s £300 million glow-up, in the future, many of the UK’s sporting arenas will be state-of-the-art buildings. Next up to get a mega facelift lift is the home of Luton Town Football Club, as Luton Borough Council has just approved plans for the club’s brand new 25,000-capacity stadium, AKA Power Court.

The Hatters first submitted an application for a new 23,000-cap stadium in 2019, but Covid-19 and a promotion have changed things since then. Now, the club will be getting an even bigger, and better venue, at the Power Court site which it acquired in 2016. Not too much has been revealed about the plans yet other than its capacity, and that the application also included a hotel and music venue, but it’s guaranteed to be an improvement on the 12,000-seat Kenilworth Road where the club has been playing for 120 years.

The club hopes the new stadium will also increase Luton Town’s chances of being promoted to, and staying in, the Premier League. The Hatters were promoted to the Premier League in 2023, but dropped back down to the Championship in 2024.

Luton Town Football Club chief executive Gary Sweet said when plans were submitted in September: ‘Once our lives changed 16 months ago with promotion at Wembley, concurrent to the gargantuan task of getting Kenilworth Road Premier League ready – which naturally dominated our workload for most of last year – we decided to reassemble a design team to take a fresh look at the whole Power Court project from foundations upwards.

‘We hand-picked and structured an elite design team of architects, engineers and technicians, who have been working with us, crafting every floor and corner of our new stadium to a detailed stage such that it can now be submitted, publicly aired and presented as a well-prepared detailed design instruction for contractors.’

Aecom has been appointed as architects for the stadium, and the first images of the futuristic new building have been revealed. Take a peek below.
