It’s not the season for water slides and lazy rivers quite yet, but we’ve got some good news for all you thrill-seeking water babies out there. After being forced to close in October, popular waterpark Alpamare in Scarborough is set to return.

The £14 million waterpark features four water slides, a wave pool, a spa and an infinity pool and claims to be ‘unlike any waterpark you’ve seen before’. Alpamare temporarily closed in winter to allow for essential maintenance and improve energy efficiency, but during that time its owner Benchmark Leisure Ltd fell into administration. As a result, the park’s future became uncertain, despite having received millions of pounds in public money.

The site has since been taken over by North Yorkshire Council, which announced that contractors would assess the park in order to determine its fate. Now, it has said that it will take measures in the hope that Alpamare will open ‘in time for the main 2024 summer season’.

Here at Time Out, we’re welcoming the news of Alpamare’s swift return, especially since we ranked it number two on our list of the best waterparks in the country. Fancy a dip in the meantime? For that aquatic adrenaline rush, these are the best waterparks in and around London, for a cold plunge these are the UK’s most spectacular outdoor swimming pools or for something that feels a bit more luxurious, these are its most beautiful outdoor heated pools.
