There are road trips, then there are romantic road trips. Cruising down the coastline, belting out the ideal driving playlist with your favourite person... there’s truly nothing more invigorating than a weekend on the road with your other half.
But which road trips are the most romantic? To find out, a study from airport parking company SkyParkSecure looked at honeymoon road trips and ranked them according to things like the average distance between stops, the number of romantic cafés and restaurants, and amount of couple-y things to do at each stop.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the UK did really, really well in SkyParkSecure’s study. A whopping three UK routes made the top ten, the highest being the Peak District in sixth. The Peaks boasted an average distance between stops of just 7.99 miles, enabling couples to go on trails, wander around pretty gardens or indulge in a classic Bakewell tart.
Coming in at seventh was the Cotswolds, a UK road trip classic, while Scotland’s NC500 rounded off the list in tenth place. Stretching across 516 miles passing the scenic Inverness, the NC500’s romantic activities included driving out to Loch Ness and having a go at sighting Nessie.
Top spot, meanwhile, was taken by Amalfi Coast. With stops along its dramatic coastline, the Amalfi has 3,564 romantic dining spots, as well as a mix of bustling cities like Naples and picturesque towns like Positano.
Here are the best honeymoon road trips in Europe, according to SkyParkSecure.
- The Amalfi Coast, Italy
- Andalusia, Spain
- The Algarve, Portugal
- Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland
- South of France
- Peak District, United Kingdom
- The Cotswolds, United Kingdom
- Mainland Greece
- NC500, Scotland
