Bank holidays seem to be happening left, right and centre this spring and we have zero complaints about it. Thanks in part to the coronation celebrations, the UK will enjoy four blissful long weekends in April and May so you’d be doing yourself a disservice if you weren’t already making some plans.
Need a bit of inspiration? Look no further. As we Brits look to make the most of our time off, Airbnb has revealed the top trending staycation spots for the Easter break.
The UK’s first seaside resort (and Time Out favourite) Scarborough was revealed as one of the most in-demand destinations. Back in November, we named the town one of the country’s 15 best places to visit in 2023, thanks to its thriving craft-beer scene and the planned revival of Scarborough Fair, which is returning this year after a two-century hiatus.
Some of the other big destinations included on the list include Blackpool, recently named the UK’s cheapest city break. Northern Irish capital Belfast was also named one of the most popular staycation spots.
The results showed that we are clearly craving time away from the bustle of city life. Airbnb found that spending time in nature or by the sea was among holidaymakers’ top priorities, so it makes sense that national parks are proving pretty popular. Peak Forest in the Peak District and the Lake District’s most famous town, Windermere, also made the list, as did Aviemore in Scotland and Tenby in Wales.
Alongside domestic favourites, the company revealed the destinations abroad that were most searched for by Brits. These included Dubai, Copenhagen, Nice and Athens.
