Whether you like it dolloped with every possible topping under the sun or you’re a fan of keeping it simple, everyone knows how they like their pizza, and probably their favourite place for it, too.
But can we really argue with the opinions of pizza chefs themselves? Well we could, but who are we to turn down a slice of their expert knowledge.
The Times has spoken to some of the UK’s most talented pizza makers to find out where they recommend for a portion of cheesy, doughy goodness, and they’ve compiled a list of the top 50 in the country, organised by region.
Repping the south west, Bertha’s Pizza in Bristol was included, which is a champion of long-fermented sourdough and innovative flavour toppings – no wonder it’s one of our favourite restaurants in the city.
In the south east, Tillingham, an East Sussex vineyard specialises in natty wine and hearty sourdough pizzas cooked in a barn outside, whereas in London, multi-award winning pizzeria Napoli on the Road claims a well-earned spot on the list. You can read more about all the London pizza restos in the Times’ list here.
Stubby’s Pizza in Norfolk fills the plate for East Anglia, and cracking spots such as Dough Eyed in York and Nell’s in Manchester also make the (pizza-wheeled) cut.
In Scotland, the likes of Sano Pizza in Glasgow are included, for Wales there’s Pizzatipi in Cardigan, and Flout! in Belfast is one of Northern Ireland’s entries. Hungry for more? The full top 50 list, according to the Times, is below.
