The UK is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and jaw-dropping holiday destinations. Cornwall? Dorset? Margate? They’re all great, but surely there are other, more unexpected places to go? Airbnb has just announced its top trending destinations for 2022 and one surprising Yorkshire seaside town has taken first place.

Hornsea in Yorkshire climbed from eighth to number one in this year’s rankings. And with its historical Victorian folly and picturesque promenade, it sure sounds nice – so maybe it’s time to plan a trip to the northeastern coast of England?

Other up-and-coming holiday spots include Fleetwood in Lancashire and Formby in Merseyside. The iconic seaside town of Bognor Regis, West Sussex, has creeped up into eighth place this year.

The holiday rental company also revealed property owners in these trending destinations are finding this summer to be quite lucrative, with Airbnb hosts in Scarborough collectively earning more than £4 million last year, while hosts in the runner-up, Walton-on-the-Naze in Essex, each earned more than £8,000 on average.

Here are the top ten trending tourist destinations for 2022, according to Airbnb:

  1. Hornsea, East Riding of Yorkshire
  2. Walton-on-the-Naze, Essex
  3. Fleetwood, Lancashire
  4. Ingoldmells, Lincolnshire
  5. Sandown, Isle of Wight
  6. Formby, Merseyside
  7. Redcar, North Yorkshire
  8. Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear
  9. Bognor Regis, West Sussex
  10. Scarborough, North Yorkshire

ICYMI: two incredible new walking routes have opened on the south coast.

Plus: a ten-day 'super heatwave' is on the way this week.
