Ah, the bucket list. A morbid reminder of our finite existence or a motivating push to grab life by the horns? You decide. But whether you choose to write it down or not, we all have places that we’d love to visit at least once before biting the dust.

Often bucket lists involve a lot of far-away spots, the kind of places that you can only visit once in your lifetime and have to take a month off work for. But a recent survey of 2,000 Brits actually found that 49 percent of participants had three or more UK destinations on their wish-list.

The survey commissioned by LNER and conducted by OnePoll revealed that people are particularly keen to explore famous sites in Scotland. Loch Ness proved the most popular British destination, followed by the Scottish Highlands.

Edinburgh Castle and Ben Nevis were also in people’s plans. And yet the study discovered that 31 percent of the participants from down south had never ventured beyond the northern border!

Other British locations people wanted to visit before they die included Cornwall’s Eden Project, the Lake District, the Roman Baths in Bath, Stonehenge and Land’s End.

Inspired by the findings, LNER has teamed up with Visit Kent, Southeastern, St. Pancras International and the King’s Cross Neighbourhood to curate its ‘Green Guide’ to the UK to help people travel sustainably.
