The summer crowds at UK airports are no joke. With departure halls filled with eager passengers wanting to get through security and passport checks and off on their hols, they’re queues and mayhem galore. It can all be pretty stressful, to say the least.

But which airports are expected to be the busiest (and, for that matter, the least busy) this summer? Electric vehicle experts ePowerTrucks went on a mission to find out. Diving into stuff like total passenger count, the number of airlines and the number of destinations, ePowerTrucks revealed the UK’s busiest and least busy airports.

The busiest air hub was named, to no one’s surprise, London Heathrow Airport. With 86 airlines flying to a total of 171 destinations, Heathrow has apparently serviced 61 million passengers in the past year. Heathrow is often ranked amongst the biggest and most-used airports in the world.

In second place was London Gatwick, thanks to its mix of long-haul and short-haul journeys, whilst third was Manchester Airport, which was the only non-London airport in the top five.

Down the other end of the spectrum, the title of least busy airport in the UK went to Kirkwall Airport in Scotland, which caters mostly to domestic travel. Other less-busy airports included smaller-scaled terminals away from the metropolitan areas like Humberside Airport in Lincolnshire and Newquay Airport in Cornwall

Here are the UK’s busiest airports, according to ePower Trucks.

  1. Heathrow Airport, London
  2. London Gatwick
  3. Manchester Airport, Manchester
  4. London Stansted
  5. London Luton
