After a long old summer, ’tis now the season of long old walks. But we don’t just mean walking to the corner shop for a late night snack in your Ugg boots, we mean proper walks: walks that are long, arduous and ideally have a pub at the end.
And the UK is not short of brilliant walks. There are so many, in fact, that one may find oneself wondering, ‘Where on earth do I begin?’ Well, we have the answer. A new study has revealed the very best walking trails in the whole of the UK. Strap on those boots, folks.
Holiday home firm Sykes has announced its list of the best-looking walks in the UK, ranked according to overall popularity, online ratings and ‘Instagram worthiness’. The insta-worthiness was measured via how many times the location had been used as a hashtag.
In first place is the Jurassic Coast, a 95-mile stretch of coastline including parts of Dorset and Devon. It’s also a Unesco World Heritage Site because of how beautiful all its rocks, fossils and landforms are.
Close behind in second place is Cheddar Gorge in the Mendip Hills, Somerset, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (of course). Third is Scafell Pike in the Lake District, which is England’s highest mountain. Sound great? There’s more. The full list is as follows:
- The Jurassic Coast, Dorset
- Cheddar Gorge, Somerset
- Scafell Pike, The Lake District
- South West Coast Path, Somerset/Devon/Cornwall/Dorset
- Yorkshire Coast to Coast Path
- Loch Ness, Scottish Highlands

- Ben Nevis, Scottish Highlands
- Giant’s Causeway, Northern Ireland
