Damp and dreary winter days in the UK call for one thing – a hearty takeaway. But if you’re ordering with a group, it can take hours to actually agree on what grub to get. So, what better time for Deliveroo to announce the winners of its Deliveroo Restaurant Awards for 2024 and make the decision a bit easier?
Based on thousands of votes, the awards celebrate some of the most loved takeaways across the UK and Ireland, from the finest pizzas to the best Japanese restaurants. It also crowned the best independent restaurants within each region.
This year, UK restos lost out on the grand prize of Independent Restaurant of the Year, which went to Greek joint Yeeros in Dublin. Better luck next year, Brits.
In the regional categories, Luxford Burgers in Edinburgh won in Scotland while Indian spot Dhamaka in Bristol bagged top prize for South England and Wales. Out of the takeaways in North England and the Midlands, Slap and Pickle, which has branches in Sheffield, Manchester and Leeds, came up trumps. And for London, Caribbean fusion spot White Men Can’t Jerk landed in first place.
