If there’s one group of people you can trust to send you to a good restaurant (besides our own food experts, obvs), it’s chefs.

The Times recently asked cooks at the top of their game to vote for their favourite roasts across the UK. Big-time restaurant owners like Paul Ainsworth, Raymond Blanc and Mitch Tonks all put in their two cents on which place they think does Sunday lunch best.

In no particular order, the list of 25 spots features The Lamb in Shipton (Cotswolds), the Harwood Arms in London and Hawsmoor, which has several sites in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Edinburgh

Acclaimed TV and Michelin-star chef Tom Kerridge picked The Mariners in Rock, Cornwall as his top choice. He said Paul Ainsworth’s restaurant ‘ticks all the boxes’ and that ‘summer or winter, [it’s] a beautiful place to overlook the estuary going into the other side of Padstow’.

Ainsworth himself went for The Golden Lion in Padstow calling it a ‘quintessential British pub’ and giving a special shout out to its cauliflower and leek fondue.

The ‘incredible roast’ at The Three Horseshoes in the Brecon Beacons was highlighted by Cornish chef Simon Stallard, while Luke French, who runs acclaimed Sheffield joint Jöro, chose The Abbey Inn in Byland, North Yorkshire for its huge Yorkshire puds filled with meat, outstanding cauliflower cheese and ‘next-level’ desserts.
