Calling all fans of tender, juicy meat! We promise that that isn’t a euphemism; we’ve got some news you might like to hear.
Meatopia, known by some as the ‘world’s best barbecue’, is returning for its 13th year, this time with two separate events in the UK, including its Scottish debut. London and Glasgow will both be treated to the beefy extravaganza this summer for a total of seven days across the locations.
Meatopia, as you may have guessed from the name, is an event all about meat. High quality cuts are cooked right in front of your eyes, fresh and smoky. According to Meatopia’s website you can ‘while away the afternoon: eating, drinking, dancing and sharing stories – generally soaking up the atmosphere’. If you’re a carnivore, it’s heaven.
The first ever Scottish Meatopia will take place this year from June 6-8, and will take place in SWG3. It will have a pretty stacked line up, from El Perro Negros’ Nick Watkins, whose talent recently secured him a spot as a finalist in the National Burger Awards, to Calum Montgomery, who won Scottish chef of the year in 2023. And that’s barely even skimming the surface – there’s plenty more cooks yet to be announced.
Mat Kemp, creative director of Meatopia, said that he is ‘a huge fan of modern Scottish food’ and that ‘Scotland produces some of the world’s best meat, fish, game, and seafood so I'm really excited to see and taste these guys' dishes….
‘We can guarantee an eclectic mix of global culinary talent to complement these Scottish heavyweights’.
Later on, from August 28-31, the London edition will take place, returning to the Tobacco Dock, but we don’t know much about what that will contain yet. Well, other than a lot of meat and a lot of smoke.
You can book your tickets to the Glasgow Meatopia dates now from this link. Londoners; stay tuned. Your time will be coming very soon.
