Dining out at a Michelin-star restaurant might have been on your bucket list for a while. But maybe you’re saving it up for a trip to Paris or even slightly closer to home in London

Well, it turns out Michelin stars aren’t just for the capital cities of the world. And you’ve been sleeping on a prime spot. It’s just been revealed that beside London, the Lake District has the highest number of Michelin-star restaurants in the UK. So if you’re ready to make it your next foodie destination, let’s take a look at the high-end food it has to offer.

First, there’s L’Enclume in Cartmel, which has been awarded a ridiculous three Michelin stars (and is the only restaurant outside of London and the southeast to get a third). The restaurant is known for its hyper-seasonal British cooking.

Then you’ve got The Forest Side, which was just crowned Best Country Hotel of the Year in the Good Hotels Guide. Here you can enjoy a four or six-course tasting menu in a fairytale-esque setting (and 90 percent of the food is apparently sourced within a ten-mile radius). The Old Stamp House offers a £95 evening tasting menu, including black pudding bon bons and deer with truffle sauce, while the Cottage in the Wood does exactly what it says on the tin (serves up delicious food in the woods).

Here are all eight of the Michelin-star restaurants in the Lake District:

  • L’Enclume, Cartmel
  • The Forest Side, Grasmere
  • Old Stamp House, Ambleside
  • Cottage in the Wood, Braithwaite
  • Rogan & Co, Cartmel
  • Askham Hall, Askham
  • The Dog & Gun, Skelton
  • Gilpin Hotel, Windermere
