Thought last weekend was hot? Well, we’ve got an even bigger scorcher on the way. Over the weekend, UK temperatures are set to reach 28C, with some areas potentially experiencing peaks of 30C .
Experts have warned that the heat could pose a health threat to the wider population and ‘not just the most vulnerable’. A heat-health alert has been put in place by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) with the west Midlands, east Midlands, east of England, south-east and south-west all under amber alerts.
London, the north-east, north-west and Yorkshire and Humber regions of England have all been issued yellow alerts, which are less serious. All of the alerts are in place until 9am on Monday, June 12.
So, it goes without saying that we should all be dousing ourselves in suncream. The UKHSA also recommends taking measures including drinking plenty of fluids, avoiding the sun between 11am and 3pm when its rays are at their strongest and staying cool indoors by closing curtains in rooms facing the sun.
The Met Office has also issued yellow alerts for storms in Wales and south and western England. These are due to happen between 2pm and 9pm on Saturday, June 11 and are predicted to cause disruption to travel.
A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘After a prolonged dry spell there is a chance of surface water flooding. There could be some surface water issues that could cause travel disruptions as well as the high gusts across parts of the country.’
‘This is going to be the warmest weekend of the year, which is to be expected as we go into summer. This weekend will also see hail mixed in with strong gusts of wind and rain hit parts of the country.’

Plus: There will be strikes at Heathrow Airport basically every weekend this summer.
