Let’s be honest, we’ve all felt a little let down by the lack of sun this spring. So far the skies have mostly just been serving grey and damp. But we’ve got good news, folks – experts have confirmed that T-shirt weather is just around the corner.

The UK is set to enjoy a mini-heatwave from Thursday, when temperatures are predicted to hit 25C in the south-west. It will probably be the hottest day of the year so far and forecasters say we can expect the above-average temperatures to stick around until June.

According to the Met Office, we could even experience warmer weather than parts of Morocco, which right now has below-average temperatures for this time of year.

In the north, places as far as southern Scotland will enjoy a comfortable heat in the low-20s, but the east coast will remain a moderate temperature thanks to cooler 16C-18C winds blowing across from the North Sea.

To classify as a heatwave, temperatures have to hit 25C or 26C in the south-west of the country for at least three days in a row.

Tom Morgan, a Met Office meteorologist, told The Daily Telegraph: ‘The rest of May looks predominantly settled, largely dry and often sunny.’

‘The temperatures look to be a little bit warmer than average for the rest of the month. Early forecasts for June show an initial continuation of the warm weather.’
