Is it just us, or has the weather this month been slightly... disappointing? It’s not exactly been glorious out there, that’s for sure. But that’s hopefully all about to change, with a 39C European heat plume set to usher in the highest temperatures we’ve seen in 2023.

Both France and Spain are experiencing record breaking temperatures for this time of year, with the Spanish city of Cordoba reaching a frankly concerning 38.8C last Thursday.

The conditions are set to spill over into the UK later this month. According to current forecasts, the heat is expected to hit Britain on Wednesday, May 17, bringing sunny conditions and highs of 21C – the hottest recorded temperature of the year so far.

Weather agency IPMA told The Express: ‘Blocking high pressure looks less likely than earlier this spring, with the jet stream back close to the UK or just to the north, with low pressure more likely to be control close to the north or west much of the time, but with occasional spells of higher pressure, especially later in the month.
