If anyone knows saunas, it’s Scandinavians. And if you weren’t already aware, a new type of sauna has slowly been taking over Scandi lakes and harbours – the floating kind. Now, as the buoyant sweat rooms continue to be one of the hottest wellness trends of the year, the UK’s first public floating sauna is coming to Liverpool.
Wyld Sauna will be at Princes Dock in Liverpool Waters. It’ll offer residents and visitors ‘a space to relax and escape in the heart of the city’, with the chance to combine invigorating open-water swimming with a hot and humid detox.
The pontoon will have a 30-person sauna, a plant room, two ice baths, outdoor showers and changing rooms. With direct access into the surrounding water, it’s hoped that it will complement other water-based activities, like open water swimming and scuba diving, that are currently on offer at the dock. Here are some renders of the place.
It was given the go ahead at the beginning of the year but a new licensing application has been submitted to the city council, showing plans to stay open until 10pm each day. The application also requests permission to sell alcohol from 11am to 10pm from Monday to Sunday. Cold water swim followed by a sweat sesh and cocktail anyone?
Wyld Sauna is still under construction and will be installed at Princes Dock by the end of this month. Once it opens, sessions will start from £5 an hour. You’ll be able to book over on the website here.
