Takeaway lovers, rejoice! The restaurant you never even knew you needed has just landed in a car park in Warrington. Wiyo (which stands for ‘what is your order?’) is a new eatery that just so happens to be the UK’s first ever drive-thru Chinese takeaway.
Its three owners Leon Freeman, Sally Gallagher and Dominic Freeman came up with the concept in 2018 and spent five years seeing it come to fruition, designing its look and developing a menu with a leading Chinese chef.
The menu includes chicken satay, shredded chilli beef and vegetarian chicken in black pepper. And it sounds like you’ll get plenty of bang for your buck. One dish (one main with one base) with a drink costs £7, two with a drink costs £9 and three costs £11. There’s also a bunch of classic sides and the option of an £11 salt and pepper sub in which chicken is layered with lettuce, onions and Wiyo’s house soy mayo.
Freeman said: ‘The aim was to make Chinese takeaway food quicker and more convenient for the masses. Considering how popular Chinese food is in England, we were confused why no one had developed the concept before now.
‘The goal is to make Wiyo the McDonald’s of the Chinese fast-food industry. We’re already looking at franchises in Manchester, Liverpool, Essex and hope to make this national.’
Wiyo soft launched on June 10, and will officially open seven days a week (5pm to 9pm) from June 17.
