To some, camping is a hardcore, back-to-basics excursion into the wilderness, cooking on a portable stove and washing in a freezing cold stream. To others, it’s pitching in a well-pruned field, with hot shower cubicles and a pizza truck a short walk away. If you’re part of the latter camp, then the winners of this year’s AA Caravan and Camping Awards will be right up your street.
Spanning the Welsh coastline, Cumbrian lakes, Somerset hills and more, the 12 winners across seven categories were selected by expert AA inspectors for their ‘quality, customer service, and that “wow” factor travellers seek’.
The esteemed title of AA’s Campsite of the Year went to Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park on the Isle of Anglesey in Wales. It was commended by judges for its spectacular sunset views over the sea, it’s cosy on-site coffee lounge Grazing Ground, its wood-fired pizzas, surrounding wildflower meadows and a private footpath to the beach.
The campsite of the year for Scotland was Witches Craig Caravan and Camping Park in Stirling, which stood out for ‘mature landscaping and beautifully maintained grounds’ at the foot of the Ochil Hills.
Skelwith Fold Caravan Park, an adults-only site in Cumbria, was England’s winner. AA’s inspector was particularly into its large games room, modern gym, sauna and four acre dog walk.
The other categories included sustainable park of the year, glamping site of the year, small campsite of the year and most improved. Here’s the full list of winners.
