The top baker’s dozen of UK artisan bakeries has officially been revealed for 2025. As part of British Baker’s annual awards, more than 100 pastry pros and bread virtuosos, from artisan bakers to suppliers, consultants and lecturers, have voted for their favourite artisan bakery in the country for 2025. ‘Artisan bakeries’ are defined as those that craft all of their baked goods by hand, often incorporating more traditional, slower methods.

The winners were revealed in a ceremony last week and Cumbria’s Lovingly Artisan took the number one spot for the third consecutive year. British Baker said that its loaves are ‘full of flavour and nourishment’ and praised the bakery for embracing premium, organic and stoneground flours to produce stunning breads like malted barley sourdough, Northumberland rye and an ancient emmer and kombucha loaf.

Climbing two places from last year and securing second prize for 2025 is Northern Rye in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Northern Rye has recently opened a new shop in North Shields and moved to a larger production bakery, meaning it has been able to make even more of its beloved cruffins and pecan swirls.

Completing this year’s podium was Lannan in Edinburgh, a brand new entry to the list. Its menu includes bakes such as pistachio, tonka and white chocolate pain suisse and a savoury pastry filled with jerusalem artichoke dauphinoise, tête de moine and pickled trompette de la mort (a type of wild mushroom). Need we say more?

As for the rest, three of this year’s winning Baker’s Dozen were in London while other exceptional pastry providers were recognised in Manchester, Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham. Here’s British Baker’s full Baker’s Dozen for 2025.
