We can all breathe a sigh of relief, because winter appears to finally be over. This weekend is set to be an absolute scorcher across parts of the UK, and you better believe we’ll be out there in the parks with our tops off.
Britain is going to see its hottest day of the year so far this weekend, with temperatures higher than in Marbella, Ibiza, Mykonos and even the eternally sunny Los Angeles in some places. It’s not often that us Brits can claim the warmest weather, so we’ll take it.
The hottest day recorded this year so far was 21.3C on March 20, in Northolt, west London. But today (Friday, April 4), temps could soar to as high as 24C in some parts of the country, according to Met Office forecasts.
Londoners are in luck, because the warmest weather is expected to be in the west of London out towards Oxfordshire and the south Midlands. Cardiff could reach 21C, while Scotland and Northern Ireland are going to be a bit more chilly – around 10C in Edinburgh and 15C in Belfast. Bad luck guys.
The high temperatures are expected to keep up in some places over the weekend. England’s south coast will be warmest on Saturday with an expected high of 21C, while Sunday will be a bit cooler at 17C.
Yesterday (April 3), the Met Office said in a post on X: ‘Temperatures (on Thursday) have been nearer to what we’d expect in July in some inland and western areas, but conversely a chilly easterly breeze has kept many eastern coastal regions much colder.’
On Thursday, April 3, Scotland saw its balmiest day of the year with temperatures climbing to 20.1C in the Highlands.
According to the Met Office last month, Blighty saw the sunniest March since records began in 1910. But don’t be too concerned. The warmest April day ever recorded was in 1949, when temperatures reached an astonishing 29.4C.
