Nothing says British summer time quite like the cocktail of delight and – for some of us – dread that the Met Office stirs up with predictions of another heatwave.

This weekend, forecasters are predicting that temperatures in London, the southeast and the parts of the Midlands will rise to a blistering 34C. The heat is expected to peak on Sunday (August 11) and Monday (August 12) before things start cooling down again on Tuesday.

And it’s not just southerners who’ll be sweating. Other parts of England and Wales will warm up too, with temperatures in the mid 20s.

Good timing for those of us hoping to soak up some rays this weekend! Although anyone with outdoor plans for later next week should know that thunderstorms are on the cards.

After a rather miserable start to the summer, with predictions it might be our rainiest one in 100 years, the UK has had quite a few scorchersBut if you think you’re hearing the word ‘heatwave’ more often, you aren’t wrong. Britain’s top 10 warmest years on record occurred after 2002, and the Met Office says that warm spells are lasting longer on average, too. Ah, climate change.

In any case, this heatwave isn’t expected to last very long – hence the ‘mini’ part. Meteorologists expect humidity to build across the UK and eventually break with wet weather midway through next week.
