Next year seems far away right now, but let’s be real, we’re going to blink and Christmas will be over, and we’ll be right there. And the best way to soothe those new year blues? A staycation, baby. But according to new research, there’s one place you might have to leave off your list.
It’s not as scary as it sounds, but it is important. Tourism is great ‘n’ all, but it’s good to be mindful about it. It can be damaging to a lot of places, whether it’s about the impact on the environment or the local communities themselves.
So a new list from Fodor has named all of the places that we shouldn’t be visiting next year. The list is called the ‘No List’, and aims to consider the impact of their travel on the places they’re visiting. And one UK county made the list.
Cornwall, England, has made the list for a number of reasons. Yep, we love it for its cracking food (including, of course, the humble Cornish pasty) and brilliant beaches, but recently it’s been suffering – and tourism is making it worse. Cornwall has a housing crisis, and people renting Airbnbs and the likes for a weekend isn’t helping. At the minute there’s a drive to put a cap on rentals in Cornwall to try and improve the situation for those living there.
The list also mentioned Venice in Italy, Lake Tahoe in California and Maui in Hawaii. You can find out more here.
