Britain’s hotel offering is as varied as its autumn weather – from romantic getaways to family holidays, the UK has something for everyone, regardless of tastes or budgets. If you’re on the lookout for a luxe place to stay on your staycation, you’re in luck. The AA’s best British hotels have just been named for 2024, and the lineup has us scrambling for an excuse to take a mini-break.
Every year, the AA Hospitality Awards spotlight the best places to stay in the country. The awards rate factors like comfort, service and facilities, as well as hotel restaurants.
This year, the Down Hall Hotel & Spa in Buckinghamshire took home the prize for England. A country house turned hotel in Essex, Down Hall is on a vast private estate and conveniently located a mere nine miles from Stansted Airport.
Scotland’s top spot went to Cromlix in Stirling, which happens to be owned by tennis legend Andy Murray. Fittingly, this restored castle features its own tennis court decked out in Wimbledon colours – plus a loch where you can fish for trout, if that’s your thing.
Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel took home the prize for Wales. If you like a building with history, this one’s for you – the hotel combines the city’s former Post Office and County Court, which date back to the 1890s.
Ebrington Hotel in Londonderry was crowned the best in Northern Ireland. With views of the River Foyle and Peace Bridge, it’s earned its place by bringing a warm and welcoming mood to a place which was once the local army barracks.
Last but not least is the Dorchester, which AA named in a separate category as London’s best hotel.
