We’ve been blessed with all sorts of marine wildlife sightings lately. Last month, aenormous humpback whale was spotted off the coast of Cornwall. Before that, a walrus called ‘Thor’ was spotted at various spots along the English coast. And that’s not to mention the supposed sightings of a killer whale off the coast of Wales last summer.

More recently, a pod of around 20 bottlenose dolphins were spotted leaping out of the sea near the Yorkshire coast. They were caught on camera by a local who was walking on the beach at Hunmanby Gap in Filey.

Andrew Cottrell said the pod were around one kilometre away from the shore and were leaping to up three metres into the air. He added that they ‘appeared to be having fun’ and looked like they were heading south towards Bempton Cliffs.

The animals generally weigh around 500kg and it is highly unusual for them to be spotted off the coast during winter.
