Hopes for a white Christmas were raised earlier this month when the north of the country enjoyed a short-lived blanket of snow. Don’t worry, that's wasn’t the last of it! As we approach Christmas Day, it looks like the UK could see a another blast of snow. Here’s what we know so far.

Weather maps from WXCharts show snowy weather blowing down from Iceland, with temperatures potentially hitting a frosty -10C. According to those maps, Scotland will get some snow on Saturday, December 23 and some parts of northern England will see snowfall on Christmas Eve. It forecasts that the most affected areas could witness up to 9.5 inches of snow on the ground.

A Met Office spokesperson told the Independent that it has a ‘high degree of confidence it will be a white Christmas this year’. But probably not for everyone. They added: ‘that does not mean we will see blankets of snow. It is more likely we will see snow in higher parts of the UK like the northern Pennines or Scottish Highlands.’

Be careful though. The Met Office has issued a danger to life warning for many areas in the lead up to Christmas. There’s a yellow warning in place all day on Thursday, stretching from Norfolk to the northern-most point of Scotland.

The Met Office said: ‘By the Christmas period, a chance of a colder, showery interlude with northerly winds potentially bringing some snowfall, mainly across hills in the north.

‘However, this colder interlude could be short-lived, and may not reach the far south before a milder Atlantic, westerly flow, becomes re-established.’
