The weather is about to turn. Sure, it didn’t feel like we got a very good summer anyway, but there’s nothing like an October cold snap to remind you just how good you had it back in July – and we Brits could could be in for a pretty chilly week.

According to weather maps, some parts of the country could see temperatures as low as -4C or -5C from the week beginning November 4. Scotland will be the main victim to the freeze, but further south, Wales and the north of England will also see lows of 0C.

There’s also a chance of snow in the Scottish Highlands, which isn’t super surprising for November, but what is more unexpected is snow in the Pennines, near the Scotland/England border, which is also on the cards.

The Met Office is predicting what it calls ‘brisk westerly flow’, which basically means whatever the weather is about to be, it’s coming from the Atlantic. According to the Met, ‘after a potentially settled start to November, [with] widely drier conditions and the chance of frost and fog, perhaps slow to clear in places, it is likely this will be increasingly displaced… As such, there will be an increasing chance of rain or showers becoming more prevalent towards mid-November.’

As ever, the Met does recommend you take any long range forecasts with a pinch of salt as they’re not always accurate.

This cold weather spell should only last for a few days, or a week at most, but we are moving into British winter, so it’s probably best we all brace ourselves for more of this sort of thing. Invest in a good scarf, dig out your wellies, and embrace the inevitable: a few months of rain and cold.
