Though house prices have fallen (slightly) over the last year – only four boroughs in London saw property prices rise in 2023 – jumps in mortgage rates and high levels of inflation mean the cost of buying a home has still gone up.
And we all know that there’s massive disparity in house prices across the UK. Zoopla revealed that areas in Scotland and the North East are the most affordable places to get a mortgage. But the most expensive? There’s one city which really takes the lead – have a wild guess where it is.
It’s (drum roll, please) … London! Obvs. The capital has stolen every spot on this list of the UK’s most expensive streets, which was compiled by Halifax, and each one has an average house price of at least a whopping £14 million.
But it’s Grosvenor Square, the second largest square in London (after Lincoln’s Inn Fields) that ranks as the most expensive, with an eye-watering average house price of £20.3 million. It’s in the heart of Mayfair and the buildings date back to 1720s – it was hardly gonna be a bargain, was it?
Clarendon Road in Notting Hill comes in second place with an average house price of £19.9 million, and Knightsbridge comes in a very close third. Shocker.
Across the rest of the UK, it’s the south east that also ranks highly – a house on East Road in Weybridge could set you back around £9 million, whereas in Wales, £1.3 million could get you a home on Benar Headland.
These are the ten most expensive streets in the UK
- Grosvenor Square (£20,347,000)
- Clarendon Road (£19,963,000)
- Knightsbridge (£19,949,000)
- Phillimore Gardens (£19,113,000)
- Ilchester Place (£17,678,000)
- Grosvenor Crescent (£16,397,000)
- Ashburton Place (£15,048,000)
- The Little Boltons (£14,925,000)
- Chepstow Villas (£14,775,000)
