The state of British summer 2024 can be summed up in two words: wet and cold. Okay, we’ve had a few days of glorious sunshine, but for the most part, the weather this year has been bitterly disappointing

Of course, there are parts of the country that have had it worse than others. And there’s one town up north that has had to put up with heavier rain and chillier temperatures than the rest of us — Oldham in Greater Manchester

Since summer started on June 20, Oldham has had the lowest daytime temperature of anywhere else in the country at 7.2C. Not only that, it’s also suffered the most rainfall, with a daily average of 0.62mm.

Elsewhere in the UK, Liverpool saw a lowest daytime temp of 8.4C, Aberdeen witnessed 8.7C and Newcastle reached a low of 9.4C. In terms of rain, Plymouth was the second wettest area, with an average daily rainfall of 0.57mm.

With autumn just around the corner, it’s not looking like it will get much warmer. The Met Office has warned that this coming weekend could be the last good weather we’ll get to enjoy for a while. So, cling on to those sunny days while you can, folks!
