Are you looking for a staycation that won’t break the bank? A new study conducted by Forbes Advisor has revealed the top spots for a getaway in the UK – by scoring locations on factors like the cost of eating out and the average price of a local Airbnb.

To come up with the list, each area was ranked against factors including the price of a three-course meal for two people at a mid-range restaurant, the price of a beer, the average daily cost of an Airbnb (from the past 3 months), the average taxi fare per mile, and the number of restaurants and attractions per 10,000 people.

The results crowned the university town of Oxford as the best staycation spot in the country, thanks to its wide choice of restaurants and local attractions, reasonable cost of Airbnb stays, and price of eating out and local transport. York and Cambridge bagged second and third place respectively, thanks to their culture, history, and beers that won’t put a hole in your wallet.

Edinburgh, though offering the highest number or restaurants, didn’t fare as well and came in at number ten. We’d beg to differ: it was ranked the best city in the world in 2022, and is definitely worth a visit.

Wondering if your hometown made the cut? Here’s the list in full, ranked in order of ‘staycation score’ out of 100:

  1. Oxford, 93.6
  2. York, 92.8
  3. Cambridge, 91.4
  4. Guildford, 90.1
  5. Nottingham, 88.3
  6. Brighton, 87.6
  7. Aberdeen, 87.5
  8. Dundee, 87.4
  9. Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, 87.1
  10. Edinburgh, 85.7

ICYMI: A hidden city square built in the 1760s has been discovered in Edinburgh.

PLUS: The ‘oldest pub’ in the UK could be forced to close because of soaring energy costs.
