Sometimes it can be easy to forget that Covid is still a thing, given that all restrictions have been lifted in the UK and most people no longer wear a mask. But the virus is still very real and new research has revealed key signs to watch out for as we enter the colder winter months.
Scientists in Norway conducted a study analysing a 2021 outbreak of the Omicron strain among a party in the country, in which 89 percent of participants had received two doses of the Moderna Covid vaccine. According to the findings, published in the infectious disease and epidemiology journal Eurosurveillance, fully-vaccinated people presented eight key symptoms – as well as a ninth common side effect of the virus.
The 9 key signs were:
- A persistent cough
- Runny nose
- Fatigue
- Sore throat
- Headache
- Muscle pain
- Fever
- Sneezing
For vaccinated individuals who contracted the Omicron strain, experts have also noted dizziness, nausea and even fainting as possible symptoms. And due to the mild nature of these symptoms, it can be difficult to distinguish the virus from the common cold.
The majority of the UK population has been vaccinated against Covid, and older and vulnerable people are currently being encouraged to receive their booster shots. Find out more on the NHS website.
