International retail giant Primark is opening up five new stores across Britain later this year. Despite many high street chains struggling at the moment – with Shoezone and Boots being the most recent casualties of rising costs – Primark has continued to prosper.

As well as opening these brand-new stores, Primark has committed to renovating 15 existing outlets, and have been working on new ventures like opening up Greggs inside their shops and launching a small vintage section called Wornwell.

The new stores have been announced to be opening in Bury St. Edmunds (on March 6) and then Teeside Park and Glasgow Fort sometime in late 2024. Branches will come to Epsom and Newbury in 2025. These expansions and upgrades are part of a £100 million investment from the company to improve its high-street presence.

According to Kari Rodgers, the company’s UK retail director: ‘This latest investment will mean bigger and better stores, hundreds of new jobs across the country and shows our ongoing commitment to the UK high street.

Is the UK high street really dying?

We hope not. Time Out is keeping track of every single high-street store shutting up shop in 2024, as well as reporting when new ones open, like the 110 brand new Asda stores landing this year, the ten new Wagamamas, or the fact that Woolworths could see a return to Britain. Make sure to check back regularly for our latest readings of the high street’s vital signs.
