The £3 meal deal was an institution. For years it fought bitterly against inflation and instability, a guiding light through the fog of austerity Britain. When times were tough – and oh were they tough – the people fell into the fulsome embrace of their cold supermarket pasta and soft-drink combo, safe in the knowledge it would never break the bank.
But even the greatest empires must fall, and so too did the £3 meal deal. These days you’re lucky to find anything less than £4 without signing up for some kind of loyalty scheme. Poundland wants to change that.
Unfortunately, no, Poundland’s meal deal won’t cost you £1. We know, we know, but look on the bright side. The bargain chain is bringing back the iconic £3 deal to our high-street.
Granted, the selection will be slightly smaller than most traditional supermarkets, but Poundland is pairing with a brand-new sandwich company, On a Roll, so there’ll be some unique options available exclusively from the budget retailer.
A spokesperson for the company said: ‘With our new meal deal, we’re not only offering an unbeatable price, but also ensuring that everyone can access a delicious and satisfying meal without the need for a plastic loyalty card.’
The deal is already available from all good Poundland stores near you, so why not change up your routine tomorrow and save a good 50p (at least) while you’re at it. Long live the £3 meal deal!
